The Richardson's Adventures

Our holiday to Western Australia was initiated from the idea of taking our boys on a extended holiday prior to starting school. We have been camping in tent's, and more recently we had a camper trailer for 3 years. While the camper trailer served us well ( over 30 camping trips ), we have upgraded to our off road caravan. The caravan makes life easier for the overnight stay, quick pack up, and it also has air conditioning. Our holidays have been booked for 2 1/2 years and we have been planning in some sort of fashion since. We have upgraded the car to give hassle free motoring, not to mention the great V8 rumble.

The early Hilton in Kalgoorlie

It's is interesting the progression of equipment and vehicles, and intimidating as to what the future will hold.

CAT 793C
Today we explored the Kalgoorlie Hall of Fame.  The CAT 793 C was a huge hit for the boys as we were able to take a tour of the cabin area.  Through the day we explored early settlers prospecting equipment, to the current technology.  This truck pictured, fits into the tray of a CAT 797 C which is used today.

Apparently 40% of drivers are women because they are proven to be better drivers!!!  To drive this truck their is a truck driver weight limit of 100kgs.  This is odd, considering the truck carries 240 tonne.  If you remove your seat belt whilst the truck is running, it is an instant dismissal.
